As developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to break, so too do announcements on how the health crisis is affecting the LPGA, its official qualifying tour, and the golf community as a whole. Mid-March, the Symetra Tour published a statement regarding initial changes being made to the tour. Since then, the tour has continued to roll out new details and modify the upcoming competitive season schedule to respect health and safety guidelines while conserving as many events as possible.
In response, John Ritenour spoke candidly about the current situation and how the Symetra Tour is protecting players by making tough decisions: postponing events, deferring the restart of events, and shortening the season.
“This year has presented challenges unlike those faced by the golf community in the past. We are so proud of the leadership of the Symetra Tour in doing everything they can to keep this important tournament moving forward despite unprecedented conditions,” explained John Ritenour.
Since Ritenour’s statement, the Symetra Tour has released a series of new updates regarding the 2020 season schedule — including additional postponements and tournament cancellations. Now, the LPGA qualifying tour is officially set to resume July 24 – 26 in Battle Creek, Michigan with the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.
